Opioids are the leading cause of unintentional death in North America.

(HRSA Opioid crisis website: www.hrsa.gov/opioids).

Primary care settings, like North Shore Community Health (which includes Salem, Peabody and Gloucester Family Health Centers), have become the front line in addressing the opioid epidemic. Our community health centers offer a patient-focused setting with seasoned, compassionate professionals uniquely able to assist those who want treatment for opioid use disorder.

North Shore Community Health currently has a very successful Substance Use Disorder Treatment program.

NSCH strives to improve and safeguard the lives of our patients who suffer from opioid use disorder through compassionate and integrated primary care. Our Substance Use Disorder Treatment program primarily uses Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) for opioid dependence and addiction treatment. Patients benefit from individualized care plans with the help of a dedicated nurse care manager and integrated medical team. Services offered include education for disease and overdose prevention, Narcan (naloxone) training and comprehensive behavioral health services.

What is Suboxone?

Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) is a medication that is commonly used to treat opioid use disorder. It is made up of two different medications – buprenorphine and naloxone that blocks the effect of opioids and help people decrease or stop their opioid use.

Clinical Outreach Services

The NSCH Clinical Outreach Program’s mission is to dismantle the barriers that prevent individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability from accessing high-quality, consistent healthcare. By delivering healthcare services directly to shelters and encampments, we are not just addressing an immediate need but reimagining the way care is provided to those who are frequently underserved by traditional healthcare systems. We strive to create a world where every person, regardless of their housing status, has equitable access to essential medical services. Our program aims to remove logistical and financial obstacles that prevent individuals from seeking necessary care.

The program will be led by a dedicated team who will be at:

  • Lifebridge of the North Shore, Salem: Clinics are held on Thursdays from 5 pm to 7 pm and every other Friday from 11 am to 1 pm, accommodating both after-hours and daytime needs.
  • The Grace Center, Gloucester: Services offered on Wednesdays from 10 am to 12 pm and every other Friday from 11 am to 1 pm, providing consistent access to care.
